Thailand flood situation update

Itinerary changes still required and minimal effect to touristic operations in Bangkok.

Dear Friends and partners,

We would just like to update you on the current situation here in Bangkok, over the weekend, thankfully we only saw limited flooding in and around inner areas of Bangkok and it was mainly confined to the riverside. The majority of the overflow water receded quickly with the low tide although some water was trapped behind, it will be pumped out and the areas cleaned by the local authorities.

All of the main tourist attractions near the river remained open, such as The Grand Palace, Wat Po and the reclining Buddha and Temple of Dawn. The main shopping areas of Bangkok also remained open and operated as normal. There was no flooding in Silom or Sukhumwit although a couple of the streets leading off Sukhumwit Road were flooded due to the Phra Khanong Canal overflow.

Most tourists in Bangkok this past weekend reported that they were able to see  and do as much of what they wanted to do. However, Chatuchak weekend market vendors had cleared out their shops as they were worried about flooding. The Chao Phraya Express boats also did not run mainly due to the high tides.

Although this critical period is coming to an end there is still a lot of water that is waiting to be drained out to sea, the municipal authorities are now working to try manage and to speed up the water flow out to the sea. Places like Nakorn Sawan and Ayutthaya which were heavily flooded are now reporting that the waters are now steadily receding

Suvarnabhumi Airport (Bangkok’s main airport) is operating as normal and they are not anticipating any issues with the main airport due to its high level of flood defences already in place.

Once again please note the North and South and all the major beach resorts of Thailand are not affected by the current flooding, so we can still provide fantastic opportunities for a great holiday for those visiting.

We sincerely hope that the information contained within helps answer some of your questions. Should you require any further information or have any more questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact us we are more than happy to assist you.
